Respect for the Flag
NEW...! NEW...! NEW...!
Ladies & Gentlemen:
See attached information regarding honoring the U.S. Flag:
Veterans now have the right to salute the flag during the National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance etc.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Oklahoma) today praised the passage by unanimous consent of his bill (S.1877) clarifying U.S.
law to allow veterans and service members not in uniform to salute the
flag. Current law (US Code Title 4, Chapter 1) states that veterans and service members not in uniform should place their hand over their heart without clarifying whether they can or should salute the flag.
"The salute is a form of honor and respect, representing pride in one's military service," Senator Inhofe said. "Veterans and service members continue representing the military services even when not in uniform. Unfortunately, current U.S. law leaves confusion as to whether veterans and service members out of uniform can or should salute the flag. My legislation will clarify this regulation, allowing veterans and servicemen alike to salute the flag, whether they are in uniform or not.
I look forward to seeing those who have served saluting proudly at baseball games, parades, and formal events. I believe this is an appropriate way to honor and recognize the 25 million veterans in the United States who have served in the military and remain as role models to others citizens. Those who are currently serving or have served in the military have earned this right, and their
recognition will be an inspiration to others."
This bill was passed July 25, 2007. Let your veteran friends know about the
passage of this bill.

In fact, aren't they the trio that helps old Hef... keep his flagpole standing tall, these days?)
Kwe Kwe. Skennenko:wa ken?

Betcha didn't know:
The Mohawk Nation is one of the "older brothers" of the Iroquois Confederacy and are known as the "People of the Flint".
Now... you do.

Who'da Thunk It?

The other day I was asking about the name "Zuzu" and, thus far, nobody has come forward to tell me they have ever known anyone by that name. However, one very nice woman who prefers to remain fairly anonymous, whilst hiding among the cacti out West, says she's got a cannister, hidden in her home somewhere, where she kept her cookies. I suppose that sorta counts....
But, I'm even more intrigued by her backyard and her talent for landscaping. This picture of that yard deserves to be enlarged, so you can see how neatly manicured everything is. Personally, I'm intrigued by the lawn; I wonder if it takes more than five minutes to cut it...?
Thanks for sharing, AZ!

A Reminder
Just in case you need a GENTLE REMINDER... The Green Bay Packers play their second pre-season game tonight, at home, against the Seattle Seahawks. I do believe the game starts at 7:00 PM CST and the "starters" will see increased playing time tonight: maybe 25 to 30 plays. Be there, or be square....
And Now...
Today is a very special day... for a very special little girl (she'll always be a "special little girl" to me...) It's my sister's 47th birthday! And if that don't beat all...
If I've done my math right, I was fourteen (14) when she was born; not old enough to drive, but plenty old enough to babysit, change crappy little diapers and somehow, naturally get used to having a new little thing in the house: a "little thing" that quickly learned to crawl, then waddle, walk and shake her little booty to the steady stream of rock 'n' roll music from the burgeoning '60s, that I, unthinkingly exposed her to....

She managed to outgrow my influence, to adapt... overcome... improvise... somehow, and turned into a fine young woman, a lady, if you will. But, to me, she's still the "special little girl", dancing & singing her way thru life, and I'm proud & happy to be her "big brother".

"Thank you... Thank you, very much...."
"I DO..." DOO DOO
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - A law passed this year allows Arkansans of any age — even infants — to marry if their parents agree, and the governor may have to call a special session to fix the mistake, lawmakers said Friday.
The legislation was intended to establish 18 as the minimum age to marry but also allow pregnant teenagers to marry with parental consent, bill sponsor Rep. Will Bond said. An extraneous "not" in the bill, however, allows anyone who is not pregnant to marry at any age if the parents allow it.
"It's clearly not the intent to allow 10-year-olds or 11-year-olds to get married," Bond said. "The legislation was screwed up."
The bill reads: "In order for a person who is younger than eighteen (18) years of age and who is not pregnant to obtain a marriage license, the person must provide the county clerk with evidence of parental consent to the marriage."
A code revision commission — which fixes typographical and technical errors in laws — had tried to correct the mistake, but a group of legislators said Friday the commission went beyond its powers.
"You're either pregnant or you're not pregnant," Sen. Dave Bisbee said. "Rarely will that be a typographical error."
The Arkansas Legislative Council asked the independent commission to reverse its correction. Several lawmakers said a special session may be necessary.
"We need a special session to fix this," Sen. Sue Madison said. "I am concerned about pedophiles coming to Arkansas to find parents who are willing to sign a very young child's consent."

Before the new law took effect July 31, girls could get married with parental consent at 16 and boys at 17.
The Legislature formally adjourned its session in May and is not scheduled to meet again until January 2009, unless Gov. Mike Beebe calls a special session. Beebe said he wanted to look at all options for correcting the error before deciding whether to call a special session.
